Function Venue and Group Bookings in Toowoomba

Birthdays, work dinners, engagements, club nights and family gatherings. Here is exactly how it works, what we need from you, and what we can’t do.

Ice n Spice takes group bookings and functions at 177A-179 Margaret Street in the Toowoomba CBD, seven days a week across lunch and dinner. Groups eat banquet style, with dishes chosen in advance and cooked fresh. The venue is licensed with a full bar. To enquire, call 07 4659 7777 or email info@restaurantstoowoomba.com.au.

What kind of groups this suits

Indian food is a good fit for a function for one reason above all others: it is designed to be shared. Nobody sits watching someone else’s plate wishing they had ordered differently. The dishes go in the middle and everyone builds their own meal.

It also solves the dietary problem that makes group dining difficult. A table with a vegan, a coeliac and someone who hates chilli is a nightmare at a steakhouse. Here it is a normal Tuesday.

Groups we handle regularly:

  • Birthday dinners and milestone celebrations
  • Work Christmas parties and team dinners
  • Engagements and pre-wedding dinners
  • Club, committee and community group nights
  • Extended family gatherings, including visitors from out of town
  • Coach and tour groups passing through Toowoomba

How group ordering works

Individual ordering for twenty people at the table takes forty minutes and produces a kitchen backlog that ruins the night. So groups above about eight go through a shared order agreed beforehand.

  1. Ring or email with your date, time and rough numbers. Even an approximate head count is enough to start.
  2. We build a dish list with you. Typically a couple of tandoori entrees, three or four meat curries, two or three vegetarian mains, a dal, breads and rice. You pick the balance.
  3. Tell us the dietary requirements at this point. Not on the night. This is the single biggest thing that makes a group booking go well.
  4. Confirm final numbers a few days out. The kitchen orders produce and meat against your figure.
  5. Food comes out in waves. Entrees, then mains and breads. Tandoor items hit the table hot rather than waiting for the slowest dish.

The bar

The venue is licensed, with beer, wine, spirits and cocktails behind the bar. Drinks can run on individual tabs or on one account for the group. Tell us which when you book so the floor staff know before service starts rather than working it out at the end of the night.

If you are organising a work function and want to cap the bar, say so and we will set it up that way.

What to tell us when you enquire

The more of this we have, the better the night runs.

  • Date, preferred time, and whether lunch or dinner suits
  • Number of adults and children
  • Every dietary requirement, including vegans, coeliacs, halal and anyone with a nut allergy
  • Whether it is a celebration and whether you want a cake brought in
  • Whether you want one bill or split bills
  • Whether anyone in the group struggles with chilli

On dietary requirements specifically, we have detail on the vegan and vegetarian page, the gluten free page and the halal page. Reading the relevant one before you enquire will save a phone call.

How much notice we need

For a table of eight to twelve, a few days is usually enough. For anything larger, or for a Friday or Saturday night, give us as much notice as you can. Weekends fill well ahead and September is our busiest month of the year because of the Carnival of Flowers.

What we can't do

Stated up front so you do not waste an enquiry.

  • We are not a buffet venue. Everything is cooked to order. The banquet format is the alternative, and it is covered on the banquet page.
  • The kitchen closes at 9pm. A function that needs to run to midnight is not going to work here, though drinks can continue past the kitchen close.
  • We are a restaurant, not a hall. There is no dance floor and no stage. This is a dining room.
  • We do not do off-site catering. Large takeaway orders are possible with notice, but we do not staff events elsewhere.

Getting in touch

Phone 07 4659 7777 during trading hours, or email info@restaurantstoowoomba.com.au with your details. Email is better for anything complicated, since it gives us a written record of numbers and dietary requirements that the whole team can work from.

Have a look at the full menu before you enquire and note anything your group would particularly like. It makes the planning conversation much faster.
